Timothy Gies

Timothy Allen Gies, age 65, of Berlin passed away unexpectedly on July 9, 2026. He was born on October 11, 1960 in Fort Atkinson, WI to William and Jane (Michels) Gies. He was born into a farming family and soon after his birth the family purchased a farm in Berlin and began to put down their roots. It was this farm upbringing that shaped Tim into the man he was. Tim graduated from Berlin High School in 1979. Tim started out his young adult life working on the family dairy farm alongside his parents and brothers. Eventually, after his own family began to grow, he began working at Thoma’s paint shop and, later, Four-Way Construction where he was a laborer, a leader and true Jack-of-All-Trades. Later in his career he worked as a truck driver for Badger Mining Corporation driving the foundry route. He retired from Badger Mining in 2021, but Tim continued to work on the family farm, and he worked closely with his sons fixing agricultural equipment as well as lending a hand running equipment or trucking for neighboring farms. If you knew Tim, you knew sitting still wasn’t his style and he loved being of service to anyone who asked. Tim met his loving wife of 41 years, Cindy, when his parents bought her grandparents’ farm. She caught his eye when he used to come to the farm to do the chores and eventually asked her on a date. From then on, they worked together to build a loving life and home. Tim is survived by his wife, Cindy; children, Matt (Alissa) Gies, Doug Gies, Jordan (Destiny) Gies and Marissa (fiancé Kade Krings) Gies; his 3 cherished grandsons, Parker, Garrett and Colby. He is further survived by his mother, Jane Gies, brothers, Bill Gies, Bob Gies and Tom Gies (special friend Angie); and sisters, Karen Sales, Ileen (Rob) Kurczek and Tammy (Jeff) Schertz. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Tim would also want us to mention his “grand pups” as he loved playing fetch with them any time they came to visit. Tim is preceded in death by his father, Bill Gies; grandparents; brother-in-law, Dean Sales; nephew; and many other uncles, aunts and friends that will welcome him home. Those who knew Tim will remember him for his willingness to lend a hand, his love of storytelling and reminiscing and how proud he was of his family and the farm they built their life around. Family and friends may visit with the family and pay their respects to Tim on Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 4-6:45 p.m. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home followed by a rosary at 6:45 p.m.. There will also be a visitation on Monday, July 20, 2026 from 10-12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Father Bill Kearley. Burial will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery of Berlin. Tim’s family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the local emergency personnel and neighbors who responded in our time of need. Following the burial, there will be a luncheon served at the Berlin Conservation grounds.
