Orlow Sommerfeldt

Orlow (Orie) Sommerfeldt of Berlin, WI passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021 peacefully at home. He was born to Edward and Olga (Dahlke) Sommerfeldt on September 19, 1928 in Montello, WI. After graduating from Montello High School, He enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean War in Artillery Survey. When he returned home from the Korean War, he returned to work on his family farm in Montello. Orie met the love of his life Betty Evensen, at a dance at the Eagles Hall in Berlin in 1956. They were married April 27, 1957. He told the kids “I had the best partner to raise my children”. He is survived by his son, David (Lynn) Sommerfeldt of Winneconne; daughters, Debra (Mike) McDonald of Lander, Wyoming, Diane Gable of Berlin, Donna (Brad) Krause of Wautoma; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jacob (Danielle) Sommerfeldt and their son Owen, Josh (Yoshi) Gable and their children Hannah and Kent, Justin Orlow Sommerfeldt and his children Janaya, Kai and Sterling, Amber (Dylan Kocinski) and their children Joziah, Emslee, and Ezra Orlow, Danielle Sommerfeldt, Drew (fiancé-Mike Flannery) Krause of Waukesha, Jamie Krause of Fort Myers, FL; and further survived by his special friend Luella Huebner of Berlin and family, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Albert and Marie (Drew) Evensen; infant son, Daniel Sommerfeldt; Wife, Betty Sommerfeldt; and two sisters, Arleen Klimke, and Myrtle Sommerfeldt. He worked for many years at Speed Queen (Alliance) of Ripon. Orie lived a full and wonderful life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and neighbor. He was a man of great faith and few words. He was a member of St John’s Lutheran Church in Berlin where he served as Elder, Usher, and a member of St John’s School Board. Orie had special memories of family trips to Fish Lake and Evergreen Campground. He had an amazing sense of humor, was a quick witted, and quick with a joke. He enjoyed going on day trips and fish fry’s. He also enjoyed big band music and dancing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friend, Luella. The family would like to thank ThedaCare at Home Hospice and Dr. Steven Blaha for their care and compassion they showed to Orie. Matthew 25:23 Well done good and faithful servant. A memorial has been established in Orlow Sommerfeldt's memory. Family and friends may visit with the family and pay their respects to Orie on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 9-11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Berlin. Following visitation, a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Paul Mundinger officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors presented by the Berlin Wells-Krause VFW Post # 2925 will follow at the Welsh Cemetery, and a luncheon and a time for sharing will be held back at the church following the committal.
