Luanne Lois Johnson

Luanne L. Johnson, a much-loved sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to all she met, passed away quietly on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Born May 1, 1948, Lu was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin. She attended Washington School Special Education until she was 18. Luanne was also a charter member of what is now Fox River Industries in Berlin from 1966 until her retirement in 2021. (She loved going to “work” so she could earn her quarters and competing in Special Olympics!) Lu spent her retirement years at Metta Homes keeping her roommates and staff entertained. Survivors include sisters, Candy (Fritz) Joram and Chester; and Melanie (Peter) Arthurs. Niece, Valerie (Randy) Whiteaker (and their sons, Griffen and Grayson.) Numerous cousins and her second family at Metta Homes in Montello, WI. Luanne was proceeded in death by her parents, Lester and Lorraine Johnson; her baby brother, Loren; her brother, Ronnie and sister-in-law, Karen; niece, Erin Arthurs; and numerous aunts and uncles. Lu took pleasures in the simple things in life like feeding the ducks, watching an old western, running errands, or stopping at McDonalds. She enjoyed cheering for the Packers and the Brewers –Wear your team colors to honor her! She will be remembered as always being happy and having an infectious, positive excitement to her. She adored animals and treated them all as members of her family. While she had limited verbal skills, with a few words, a look, a smile, or a squeeze, she could convey so much joy and excitement. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, caregivers, and all who knew her. God gave us a gift when he sent Luanne. Anyone who spent time with her felt that. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Metta Homes who supported and cared for Luanne so well over the years. They would also like to thank the SSM Health at Home Hospice team for their compassionate care as she passed from this world into the next. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to Green Lake Area Animal Shelter and Green Lake County Special Olympics. Family and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 10-11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Rob Schrader officiating.
