Mr. James Howard Day

James Howard Day, age 72, of Woodruff (formerly of Berlin), passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 30, 2015. Jim was born on April 12, 1943 in Cortland, New York, the son of Ardella Rivers. Jim graduated from Berlin High School with the class of 1961. During his 4 years of high school he was active in basketball and set a school record in pole-vaulting which he held for many, many years. He continued his education at Milwaukee Area Technical College and earned a degree in Electronics. He was then employed as a lab technician at Standard Colesman in Oshkosh. He also worked at Carri-Craft in Berlin and was an insurance agent for Rural Mutual. He then married Patricia Diane Field, the love of his life, on December 16, 1967 at Olivet Congregational Church of Christ in Columbus. They lived in Berlin for 33 years where they owned and operated Daze Inn for 4 years and then the Misty Inn which operates to date and In 2002 Jim semi-retired to Woodruff on the channel between Lake Minocqua and Lake Tomahawk, along with his beautiful bride. Jim enjoyed vacation time with his family and friends, especially his countless trips to Jamaica, boating on the Mississippi and the Northwood’s lakes, playing cribbage, shooting pool and shaking dice with his friends. He also enjoyed sitting out on his deck taking in all that nature had to offer. Jim was an avid Wisconsin sports fan from the Madison Badgers, to the Milwaukee Brewers and his top passion the Green Bay Packers. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 47 wonderful years, Patricia. He is also survived by two sons and a daughter, Scott Day of Berlin, Shawn (Tanya) Day of Berlin and Shelli (Jeremy) Beulen of Berlin; five loving grandchildren Cody and Mitchell Day, Riese, Riley and Ryder Beulen. Jim was a very loving and giving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed by all. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Ardella and step-father, Harry Rivers, along with his beloved grandmother, Cora and his very special pet Meghan. Relatives and friends may visit with the family and pay their respects to Jim on Monday May 11, 2015 from 2-5pm at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of downtown Berlin with a funeral service at 5pm. at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Jo Ann Schoblaski officiating. Immediately following the service at the Funeral Home the family asks that you join them at the Misty Inn for a celebration of life, with a light menu and drinks. A special thanks to Jim’s angel Angie from hospice, Dr. Luebner, Dr. Woods, Karrie Schmidt, the entire nursing staff of UW-Madison hospital, Dr. Mroz and nurse Dafney at Marshfield clinic in Minoqua. We would also like to thank all of our very dear family and friends for all of the support and love they showed us during this trying time. Jim lived life to the fullest and for those of us that knew him best knows that JD 43 will live on forever in our hearts and souls.
