Darlene Strey

Darlene Viola Strey, life-long resident of Berlin, WI, journeyed to her heavenly home on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the age of 79 from her illness with dementia. Darlene was born in Berlin, WI, on October 14, 1945, to Harry and Viola Wendt (Rucks). She graduated from Berlin High School in 1963. On June 23, 1962, she married her former husband of 10 years, Alois Steger, Jr, and they welcomed two daughters and one son. On December 6, 1975, she married Clifford Strey, and they welcomed one son. Her children were the most important part of her life and brought her incredible pride and joy. Darlene worked as a sewer / stitcher at Lambskin, and a stitcher for Midwestern Sport Togs in Berlin. She then earned her Nursing Assistant credential at Moraine Park Technical College and became employed at Juliette Manor nursing home in Berlin for eight years, and an additional four years at Theda Clark in Neenah, WI. Her working path led her to nine years at Berlin Memorial Hospital in the OB/GYN department as well as serving as an EMT for Berlin EMS for 28 years. Later she became the Green Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner, then Coroner (combined 16 years), retiring in 2015. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Berlin. Darlene is survived by her husband, Clifford Strey; her children, Shari (John) Wahlers, Julie (Marvin) Bosveld, Matthew (Jamie) Steger, and Joshua Strey; her grandchildren, Aaron (Trish) Krebs, Jamie (Andrew) Moungey, Kayleigh Steger, and Kelssie Steger; her great-grandchildren, Halie Krebs, Dustin Krebs, Braylen Goodman, Gabriel Casillas, and Vance Steger; and great-great grandson, Seth Krebs. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. She is predeceased by her parents, Harry and Viola Wendt (Rucks); her sisters, Jane Watkins and Delores Frees; and brother, Mark Wendt. Darlene will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. She was generous, loving, kind and strong. Special thanks to her Heartland Hospice caregivers, as well as the staff and caregivers at Rosemore Village Assisted Living and Memory Care facility in Wild Rose, WI. A visitation for Darlene will be held at Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home in Berlin, WI 116 S. Adams Ave. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Rob Schrader officiating. Burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Berlin, following the service.
