Allan John Jackan

Allan John Jackan, 73, of Green Lake, WI, died Saturday, July 1, 2023 at his home. He was born September 16, 1949 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, son to Ignatius and Mary Jane Jackan. He graduated from Assumption High School in Wisconsin Rapids and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from UW Oshkosh. He served in the Air Force from 1970-1974. On May 5, 1973, he married the love of his life, Barbara Hendricks. His job as a sales rep for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad brought him to Washington state in 1980. While in Washington, he took on many roles, including being very active in his kids’ lives, volunteer firefighter/EMT, Fire Commissioner, taking many family camping trips and being a fun neighbor! In 1993, his job managing an intermodal transportation company brought him to St. Charles, IL, where he resided with his family for 21 years. He kept busy with numerous woodworking projects and boy scouting activities while serving as Scout Master and loved every minute of it! Upon his retirement in 2014, he and Barb moved back to Wisconsin and settled in the Green Lake area. Al became an active member of the American Legion (Post 306) and the East Central Wisconsin Beekeepers Association. He filled his retirement with more woodworking projects, beekeeping, volunteering at church and in the community, reading, grilling, yard work, watching football, golf, cooking shows and staying up with current affairs. He enjoyed camping and traveling with Barb, and the many road trips he took with his brothers. He cherished being a grandpa and never missed a single activity of his granddaughters. Al will always be remembered for his love for his entire family and great sense of humor. Al was a very caring, patient and generous man, he truly enjoyed donating his time and skills for many different causes and organizations. He put himself into everything he did and if a job needed doing, he always made sure it got done. He will be greatly missed by everyone. Al is survived by his wife Barbara (Hendricks), to whom he was married for 50 years on May 5, 2023. He is also survived by his two children, Julie (Daniel) Follman, Joseph (Angela) Jackan, and his two grandchildren Ella and Grace Follman. Al, was the fifth of 18 children and is survived by 14 siblings: Rose Ann Tillery, Marcia (David) Zellmer, Christine March, Marjorie (David) Warren, Maureen (James) Sage, Paula (William) Trivette, Bruce (Beth Simmons) Jackan, David (Carol) Jackan, Timothy (Vicky) Jackan, Terence (Laura) Jackan, Steven (Susan) Jackan, Lois (Scott) Lewis, Amy (Joseph) Burghardt, and Jeff (Chris) Jackan; numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved so much, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his son Bradley Allan Jackan in 1996, his parents Ignatius and Mary Jane Jackan, brothers Robert and Raymond, sister Carol, and nephew Mark Jackan. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:45 p.m. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home in Berlin with a rosary recited at 6:45 and on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, from 9-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held following the Wednesday visitation at 11:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Parish of Berlin with Father John Silva officiating. Following the service, full military honors will be presented by the Green Lake American Legion Post #306. A burial will be held the following day at 2:00 p.m. in the Blackberry TWP Cemetery in Elburn, Illinois. A memorial has been established in his memory.
