Ronald Anthony Chier, age 83, went to his eternal home on Saturday, December 7, 2019. Ron was born in Berlin, WI, on May 29, 1936, to Philip Steven Chier and Gertrude Louise (Strehowski) Chier. He attended Berlin High School, where he was a member of the state championship football team, and graduated in 1954. After graduation, Ron worked locally at several different occupations. In 1955, he entered the Army and volunteered for the paratroopers. After completing jump school in the 82nd Airborne Division, he was assigned to the Military Police Company until his honorable separation. Following his military service, Ron was selected as the first full-time deputy sheriff, radio operator and jailer with the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Department. He was soon promoted to the Green Lake County Traffic Patrol as a traffic officer. In 1960 Ron left the traffic patrol and joined a domestic casualty insurance company as a claims adjuster and investigator. He passed the insurance exams for Life, Health and Accident, and Property and Casualty insurance through the Insurance Institute of America, and completed many other training courses too numerous to mention. Ron served in this capacity for 27 years for three different companies, with a short stint writing life insurance in Kitzigen, Germany, to soldiers stationed at two different army bases there. He became a Notary Public in 1972. In 1988, Ron joined Prudential and sold life insurance and annuities out of their Oshkosh office. In 1992 Ron joined Schlueter and McDaniel to form the Schlueter, McDaniel, Chier Agency (SMC Agency) in Ripon, working successfully until 2000, when he merged with The Dietrich Agency and worked until his retirement in 2017. Ron was a lifetime member of the 82nd Airborne Association and Father Fiss Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of Am-Vets of Redgranite, the BHS Alumni Association, the Berlin Veterans Foundation and the State Insurance Commissioners Agency staff. He enjoyed attending activities at the Berlin Senior Center with his friend Barbra McQuown, as well as local cultural events. Ron married Sherry (McConnell) on July 7, 1999, who precedes him in death. He is survived by his three daughters, Sabrina Novak (special friend, Peter Faust), Nichole (Lance) Uhland, Rhonda (Greg) Chier-Verhagen. He also has two grandchildren, Eric Novak and Ella Verhagen.
