Gerald "Jerry" McGregor
September 12, 1932 - April 23, 2021
Gerald G. McGregor (Jerry) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, Friday April 23, 2021. He was born on September 12, 1932 on the family farm, in the Town of Leon. He was the son of Glen and Thora (Hanson) McGregor. He attended the Auroraville (2 room) school for grades 1-8 and then attended Berlin High School, graduating as a member of the Class of 1950. Jerry was inducted into the US Army on August 21, 1956. He was discharged in 1958 to come home and help his dad run the family farm. He was on reserved stand-by until 1962, when he was honorably discharged. On July 11, 1959 Jerry and Katherine Resheske were united in marriage at St. Mark's Catholic Parish, Redgranite. They were the last couple to be married in the old church. In his younger days he enjoyed playing baseball for the Redgranite Baseball Team. Jerry loved to hunt on the farm and in northern Wisconsin. His love of hunting was shared with six of his friends. Together they formed The Woodpecker Club and used an old train car they remodeled into a cabin that they used for hunting and vacationing. Another one of his hobbies was gardening. Green beans were one of his favorite vegetables to plant. Every couple of weeks he was planting another row, so he had fresh beans to eat all summer and fall. Jerry was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers, and never missed a game. Jerry had a true love of farming. One of his biggest achievements was carrying on the family tradition of farming. He was born, raised and lived his entire life on the family farm. The McGregor farm was purchased by his grandfather in 1896 and has been in the family for 125 years. On August 6, 1997 at the Wisconsin State Fair, Jerry and Kathy were proudly recognized by the State of Wisconsin for owning and operating a "Century Old Farm". Jerry's family and friends will remember him for his blue eyes, his smile and a great sense of humor. His laugh was contagious. He had a quiet, easy going personality and no matter what he always had a positive outlook on life and never gave up. Jerry leaves behind his wife, Katherine, of 61 years; his daughter, Diane (Jim) Trochinski; 3 sons, Michael (Ann - Fiance), Robert (Sandy) and Thomas; one sister, Harriet (Vernon) Bertzyk; sister-in-law, Diane McGregor; nephew, David (Debbie) McGregor; 8 Grandchildren, Jenni (Jim) Schumacher, Matt (Stephanie), Katie (Bob) Stone, Ben, Kayden, Kollin, Jacob and Sophie; 5 Great Grandchildren, Lucy, Harrison, Marshall, Oliver and Aubrie. His beloved dog, Callie; and many cherished neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Thora; brother, John; daughter-in-law, Mary McGregor; and niece, Christine Gagliano.
