George Phillip Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

At home in Green Lake with his family by his side, George J Phillip, age 79, moved on in peace October 18, 2020. George was raised in a close-knit family. After graduating from Elmhurst College, George married his high school sweetheart Judy and began a family of his own. He made his career in the retail family shoe business, Phillip’s Shoes. George treasured his family. 2 brothers, a sister, and their families. George with Judy his wife of 55 years, took great pride and delight in their 4 children Jeff (Christine), Jeannine (Steve), Christopher, Michelle (Peter), and 10 grandchildren: Tyler and Nathan (Tori); Nicholas, Joseph and Anna; Ryan, Bradley and Emily; Amira and Samuel. Spending his childhood years vacationing on Green Lake. George chose to retire there enabling his family to share and build new memories at the lake. He encouraged friends and family to share in his joy. He was dedicated to Highlands Presbyterian Church (IL), singing in the choir, maintaining the building and grounds, and assisting with the Sunday school program. His hobbies included train travel with a special interest in steam locomotives, and horseback riding with his beloved Antero. Childhood experiences with farming fostered his love of gardening. Filling many hours George gardened at not only his home but also the homes of his children and at the church. Over the years, animals enriched the family’s life. From hamsters to horses; cats and dogs to a cow; ducks, chickens, a love bird, and aquariums of fish; George loved animals of all kinds. A gracious smile, gentle heart, and kindness to all, are attributes for which George is remembered by customers, care givers, many friends and especially his family. The kindness and open friendship George offered to others will live on in his family by the example that he set. Services were held privately. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Hospice Hope Green Lake, and Green Lake Association.
