Darlene Doan
September 1, 1930 - July 16, 2021
Darlene "Dolly" Doan, age 90, of Berlin, was welcomed by her husband Dan in time to celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary in heaven. She passed away peacefully on July 16, surrounded by her family after a long-fought battle with dementia. Dolly was born on September 1, 1930 in Chicago IL, daughter of Elmer and Bertha (Maronn) Johnson. She was a 1948 graduate of Palmer High School. She met the love of her life, Daniel Doan, in late summer of 1948 on the Borth Methodist Church hayride. They were married at her parents’ home in Poygan, WI on July 16, 1949. Dan and Dolly raised their four children in Borth, WI, as well as cared for many foster children. Dolly spent her life serving her church and her family. She loved her garden, traveling the world with Dan, cooking, baking, and their winters in Plant City, Florida. Dolly made friends everywhere she went. She loved her great grandchildren fiercely. Seeing or hearing about them, lit up her world. Dolly is survived by her four children; Denise (Bob) Johnson of Oshkosh, WI, Darrell Doan of Rice Lake, WI, Doreen Doan of Burnsville MN, Dave (Darci) Doan of Berlin, Wi, her three grandchildren; Amy (Chris) Peterson, Bob Johnson, and Devan (Ryan) Curley, her four great grandchildren; Kenny and Zach Peterson and Quinton and Rowyn Curley, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Reverend Daniel Doan, her parents Elmer and Bertha, her brothers Lester and Vern, and her sister in laws Alberta and Ruth. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Patriot Place as well as Heartland Hospice, especially Jody RN, for their care and compassion, even during Dolly's "spicier" times. A memorial will be established at the Berlin Senior Citizen Center and St. John Lutheran Church in Dolly's name.
