Robert Joshua Schmitz

Robert Joshua Schmitz, age 43, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021. Robert was born June 5, 1978, in Berlin, WI to Bob and Nancy Schmitz. He graduated in 1996 from Berlin High School where he met a bunch of great friends. Josh went on to attend UW-Platteville where he graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree. It was in speech class, spring of 98, where he met a girl that would later become his wife. On September 28, 2002, Josh married Kelly Hahn at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Berlin. Josh and Kelly purchased a small house that became their loving home. While working a full-time job at R&M Motors, Josh started 'Schmitz Farms' with 30 acres which eventually grew to 105 acres. Josh's passion was farming. He loved the land and the sight of acres of corn. While continuing to work and grow a farming legacy, Josh and Kelly had two loving and hard-working kids: Ann (16) and Bob (14). You could find the kids walking in their dad's shadow, greasing equipment, organizing tools and paperwork, or loading buckets of fertilizer. Josh taught his kids by his example a great work ethic, love of family, and faith in God. Family time was spent in the field, watching Gold Rush around the home's only television, or enjoying a family dinner out at their favorite restaurant: Culver's. Josh went on to work the PM weekend shift in the maintenance department at Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon. There was nothing Josh could not fix or anyone he would not help. Josh loved old-time country music, was a faithful 7:30 a.m. church goer and most of all loved his family. Josh is survived by his wife Kelly; daughter, Ann; son, Bob; parents, Bob and Nancy Schmitz; sister, Jennifer (Brian) Colbeck; Kelly's mom and dad, Frank and Pat; nieces, a nephew and many friends. Josh is preceded in death by his grandparents; and his Godmother, Janet Kessenich. We love you Bear Bear, love us. Family and friends may visit with the family on Friday September 10, 2021 from 4-7:00 p.m. and also on Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 9-10:15 a.m. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of Berlin. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the Saturday visitation at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Parish of Berlin with Father John Silva officiating. Inurnment will follow services at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery of Berlin. A Memorial has been established.
