Mary Ann Chipman

Mary Ann Chipman, age 85, of Spring Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Theda Care Hospital in Berlin, WI on the evening of July 9, 2021. Mary Ann was born in New London, WI on April 5, 1936, to Harriet (Joubert) and Urban Fermanich. Mary Ann grew up on a farm in New London, Wisconsin, and after graduating from New London High School, she moved to Milwaukee. There, she lived with her aunt, worked for a bank and met the love of her life, Robert “Chuck” Chipman. They were married on June 7, 1958. They eventually purchased their home in Spring Lake where they raised their 9 children. They enjoyed 62 years together and were a loving example of Christian marriage. Mary Ann was a devout Catholic, loving mother and devoted wife. Her greatest joy was her family, and if there was a baby in the room, it was likely in her arms. She loved gardening, whether it was vegetables or flowers, and enjoyed identifying the birds that visited her feeders, especially the hummingbirds and cardinals. For a couple weeks each summer, there was a constant cycle of strawberry picking and jam making, and of course strawberry shortcake. In the fall, apple crisp was a staple. There were always chocolate chip cookies in her cookie jar, and she could bake pies that would make a baker jealous. Mary Ann was quiet, humble and enjoyed the simple beauty of life. She was a beacon of strength, and you could always count on her. Mary Ann is survived by her children Robert (Mary) Chipman, Kathleen (James) Davenport, Evan Chipman, Lisa Chipman, Scott (Linda) Chipman, Amy (Gerald) Albrecht, Timothy (Rebecca) Chipman, Tracy (Charles) Berray and Jennifer (Gary) Dixon; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Carol Eickhoff; her brothers, James (Ila) Fermanich, David (Shirley) Fermanich and Michael (Jenny) Fermanich; sisters-in-law, Victoria Seelow, Carol Herrmann, Eileen Korchunoff, Lori Trahan and Victoria Chipman; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Chipman; her infant daughter, Maria; her parents, Harriet and Urban Fermanich; her father- and mother-in-law, Albion and Pearl Chipman; her sister, Marlene Worner; three brothers-in-law, Albion Paul Chipman, Jack Chipman, and Donald Chipman; and sister-in-law, Karen Bouffiou; and many other beloved family members. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Redgranite, WI, on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Father Kyle Sladek. Visitation will precede the mass in the church hall, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at St. Mark’s Catholic Cemetery of Redgranite and a luncheon to follow in the Parish Hall.
