Kenneth Wegner

Kenneth Russell Wegner, age 73, of the Town of Seneca, died after a short illness at the Waupaca Hospital on Saturday, November 26. Kenneth (Slim) was born on July 14, 1949, in Berlin, WI, the son of Russell and Evelyn (Ladwig) Wegner. He married Jean Fleegal on October 14, 1972 at the Big Mecan, Marquette County WI. Ken worked at the Berlin Foundry for 41 years and was a member of the Old Timers club. In his younger years, Ken enjoyed bowling with his brother Gary at Howie’s Green Meadow Lanes. During hunting season, you could guarantee Slim would be prepared to welcome hunters with a bowl of chili and ready to play a game of cards with endless stories of hunting seasons past. Slim loved ice fishing trips with the family. We can’t forget his love of Polka music and dancing. Ken’s true passion in life was farming, with his son, Duane, by his side. He farmed right up until the moment he couldn’t anymore. They were seen at most auctions in the area, always looking for more farm equipment. Endless hard hours were spent between the two of them to keep Slim’s passion alive. Ken loved his late wife, Jean immensely. He remained by her side during her prolonged battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He worked so hard to make sure she was comfortable and well taken care of; no cost was considered too great in Ken’s eyes in order to ensure the comfort of Jean. His love for her was constant and tireless. Survivors include his children, Duane (Angela) Wegner and Susan (Zach) Wegner; grandchildren, Jacob Wegner, Emilee Wegner, Mariah (Mike) Peterson and Cole Peterson; and his great-granddaughter, Ellianna Koth. He is further survived by his brother, Gary (Jane) Wegner; and brother-in-law, Raymond (Karen) Fleegal; sisters-in-law, Carol (Howard) Zabel Sr, Ruth (Bob) Milne and Lois Fleegal. Further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; brothers-in-law, Alden Putzke and Clifford Fleegal; his parents, Russell and Evelyn Wegner; and mother and father-in-law, Harry and Elnora Fleegal. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 10:00-12:30 p.m. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home, 116 S. Adams Ave, Berlin. There will be a short service at 12:30 p.m. officiated by Pastor Scott Piper, Light snacks will be served following the service. Special thanks to his niece, Yvonne Greenfield, Kelly from ThedaCare Hospice and Dr. Lyons from Waupaca Hospital for their love and support during Ken’s final days.
