John Switon

John Joseph Switon, Jr., age 82, of the town of Seneca, died peacefully at home beside the love of his life on July 5, 2021. John was the first-born son of John & Francis Switon and raised in Milwaukee WI. As a teenager John joined the Airforce and proudly served as an Airforce police officer with top security clearance for SAC guarding nuclear aircraft. While in the service he met and fell in love with his wife of over 61 years, Elaine. After his time in the service he continued to serve by becoming a police officer for the city of Waukesha, WI. While serving on the police force, his fellow officers gave John (who is 6ft 5in tall) the nickname Big John. John received citations and recognition for his outstanding service and heroism while serving the community. John also earned a degree in criminal justice while supporting his family by attending courses in the evenings. John went into the private security field after leaving law enforcement and numerous promotions caused John to move his family out of WI, John lived in several states before finally being able to move back to WI. While in security John was again recognized for his heroism. While working at a beef manufacturing plant a crazed 3000 + pound bull escaped and was charging at civilians John got out in front of the charging bull and calmly aimed his revolver and brought the bull down, earning him the nickname the biggest bull shooter from his coworkers. John loved to read and was an avid student of history especially of the old west, so family vacations were planned around historical locations throughout the country. John loved to camp whenever he had the chance and would rather sleep in a tent than a hotel room. John’s movie idol was John Wayne and he always enjoyed anything that was related to John Wayne making gift giving from his family a lot easier. John’s wonderful sense of humor was disarming for someone his size. He enjoyed flirting and joking with people he just met always bringing them a smile. John always put the safety and wellbeing of family first and would always help when needed. John is truly the rock of his family. John is survived by his beloved wife Elaine, brother Charles Switon, daughter Catherine E Knoch & husband Kevin, son John J Switon 3 & Cathy Hartwig, son Timothy J Switon, daughter Nancy A Switon & Mike Hein, son-in-law Sylvan Doll, grandchildren Kaylee Switon, Alison Knoch, Jason & Joseph Doll, numerous great grandchildren including Lacely Switon & Mason Knoch, and his best bud & bed hog TJ. Preceding John in death is his parents John & Francis Switon, daughters Susan M Switon & Patricia M Doll, sisters Joan Blasczyk, & Doris Miles.
