Janet Leone Smith

Janet Leone Smith (Cappelletti, Shrock, Wortham, Smith), age 87, passed away peacefully in her Virginia home on November 23, 2023, under the care of family and hospice. Janet Cappelletti was born October 2, 1936 in Berlin Wisconsin to her mother Evelyn B. Harrison (maiden name Cluey) and Eugene Cappelletti. She was raised by her parents Evelyn and Evelyn’s second husband Kermit Harrison with her younger sisters Adair and Cherie. During her school years, Janet grew up on the Harrison farm in the Town of Nepeuskun and attended Berlin High School. She married her first husband Lawrence Simon Shrock and had three daughters, Rosalind, Carrie, and Laurrie and her first son, Eugene. She later married her second husband Fred E. Wortham Jr. and had her second son, Dallas. Janet’s early careers included work as a waitress, childcare provider, and seamstress supervisor. She went back to school in the 70’s to get her GED. She later earned her real estate license and worked as a realtor. In the 80’s, Janet completed LPN certification and particularly enjoyed her nursing career. Throughout her life, she was an avid gardener, enjoyed sewing, and loved relaxing by a lake or river catching fish. During her retirement years Janet passionately bred, raised, and showed Shetland Sheepdogs. Janet is survived by her children, their families, and sisters: daughter Rosalind Janet Gray and husband Donald of Taft, TX and their children April A Helgerman and Paul H S Gray; Mark Beaty, husband of Janet’s deceased daughter Carrie, of Le Flore, OK and their children Lance R. Sturm, Mitchell W. Beaty, Kenneth J Beaty and Christopher D. Beaty; daughter Laurrie Adair White and husband Norbert of Disputanta, VA and their children Rachelle M. Odem, Jason E. Coates, Tiffanie D. Doyle, Amanda R. Hensel, William A. White II and Kelly N. Haldeman; son Eugene Lawrence Shrock and wife Kelley of Buda, TX and their children Jaron E. Shrock and Janson H. Shrock; son Dallas Harrison Wortham and wife Sheri of Lacey, WA and their children Collin D. Wortham, Lee F. Wortham, JC (Kiera) M. Wortham and Cola (Nicholas) Warren; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister Adair Zwiener and husband Ernest of Horicon, WI; sister Cherie Michalowski and husband James of Milwaukee, WI; and many more nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends. Janet is preceded in death by her birth father, Eugene Cappelletti, mother Evelyn B. Harrison, stepfather Kermit Harrison, daughter Carrie Evelyn Beaty, grandson Donald J. Sturm, and husbands Lawrence S. Shrock, Fred E. Wortham Jr., and James Smith. Family and friends may visit the family and pay their respects to Janet on Monday, December 4, 2023, from 10-11:00 a.m. at River Shores Church of Berlin. A funeral service will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Casey Getz. The committal will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Berlin after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the National Sheltie Rescue Association (NSRA) (see info below) in honor of Janet’s love for her shelties.
