James Steger

James Earl Steger, age 79, a lifelong resident of Berlin, passed away surrounded with the love of his family and under the loving care of hospice on August 25, 2020. Jim was born in the Township of Warren, Waushara County on February 1, 1941, the son of Alois and Marietta (O’Keefe) Steger. Jim left high school after the 11th grade to help out on the family farm. He joined the National Guard at the age of 18 and served from 1959 to 1965, serving actively from 1961 to 1962 at Fort Lewis Washington. On June 29, 1963, Jim married the love of his life, Beverly Gail Londowski. Together they welcomed three amazing sons. Jim was a devoted husband of 57 years, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jim was a dedicated and respected employee of the Berlin Foundry for 42 years. After retirement he drove vehicles for Sondalle Ford for many years. He loved playing cribbage, gardening, fishing, hunting, trips to the casino and tinkering around the garage. Most of all, he loved and cherished spending time with his family and friends. Jim was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church of Redgranite. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Beverly; sons, Ron (Valerie) Steger, Dan Steger, and David (Heather) Steger; grandchildren, Savannah Mae Steger, Savannah Lynn (Jon) Polakowski, Christina Domke, Alexis Steger, Jessica Steger, Brandon Steger, Amanda (Kevin) Belter, Taylor (Keith) Steger, Cole Steger; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Cayleigh, Amayara, Edmude, Cora, Isaac, and anticipating the arrival of two more in March 2021. He is further survived by his sister, June (Bob) Leigh; sisters-in-law, Sandy (Gary) Schwersenska, Pat Steger, Barb Steger, Darlene Strey, Marianne Steger; brother-in-law, Bob Kasubaski; nieces and nephews; and many friends near and far. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Alois and Marietta Steger; sisters and brothers, Beatrice, Arlene, Marge, Pat, Thomas, Alois Jr., Kenny, Larry and John. The family would like to thank ThedaCare at Home Hospice for the excellent care and compassion showed to Jim and his family. Jim will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Family and friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of Berlin. A Memorial service will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon Bob Precourt officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later time. Due to the pandemic, friends and family are asked to please wear a mask and social distance in the funeral home, sitting with close family members or friends only. Also, in keeping with CDC guidelines, there will be no luncheon or fellowship following services.
