Eleanor A. Polly

Polly, Eleanor A. Eleanor A. Polly, age 89 of Berlin, died peacefully Friday morning, August 22, 2014 at Juliette Manor where she has resided for several years. Eleanor was born on January 4, 1925 to parents Frank & Stella (Novak) Gurkowski on a farm north of Berlin. Eleanor loved growing up on a farm with her 7 brothers & sisters. She married John M. Polly in 1950 & they managed the Eagles Club in Berlin for several years, where Eleanor was known for her Friday fish fry’s. In 1973 they purchased their own tavern on the square, Polly’s Pub, which Eleanor operated until she was 77 years old. Eleanor enjoyed her regular customers, many who called her “Mother”. She loved to cook & loved making food for her customers. Eleanor loved music, especially Polka music & loved to dance. She was a huge Green Bay Packers fan. She enjoyed her business neighbors on the square, especially Jeff & Judy Bending. Eleanor liked cats & enjoyed having her “Grand-Kitty” Lilly visit her at Juliette Manor. Eleanor is survived by her daughter & son-in-law Lisa & Mike Gee, Green Bay; her beloved Grandson Johnny Gee, Huntington Beach, CA; & many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John, infant son Michael, her parents, sisters, Lilly Frasheski, Clara Gurkowski, Regina Nigbor; & brothers, Harry, Frank, Chet & Phil Gurkowski. Funeral services with the Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the All Saints Catholic Church of Berlin with the Rev. David Greenfield officiating, with burial to follow in the Saint Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery of Berlin beside her husband & son. Relatives & friends may visit with the family & pay their respects to Eleanor on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of downtown Berlin just prior to the Mass. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Juliette Manor, especially Dave Peterson, for the wonderful care they gave Eleanor. We would also like to thank her nephew & niece Jim Gurkowski & Luann Koch, & special friends in Berlin, Joanie Taylor-Salefsky, Sister Michaleen, & Sue Koch.
