Doria Disterhaft

Doria Jean Disterhaft, age 77, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 18 at her home in Berlin, WI. She was born on June 26, 1947 the daughter of Daniel and Ruth (Barkow) Feustel in Wild Rose, WI. Doria grew up in Poy Sippi, WI with her brother David and graduated from Berlin High School with the class of 1965. On October 21, 1967 she was united in marriage to Michael Anthony Disterhaft at St. Michael’s Church in Berlin. They spent the next 44 years together until Mike’s unexpected passing in 2011. Together they raised two sons, Brian and Steven. After seeing her sons off to school, Doria held various jobs in the Berlin community. For many years, she was a customer service representative for Midwestern Sport Togs. She also held positions with Sentry Foods and Lake States Footwear. Later on, she enjoyed working with customers and vendors at the Picture That antique store as well as assisting her late dear friend SanDee Shea with many estate sales throughout the area. In 1992, Mike built Doria her dream house on the family farm west of Berlin and also fulfilled his dream of moving back to his childhood home. Hesitant to leave the city at first, Doria came to cherish the peace and tranquility of life in the country on Big Island. It was there that they were their happiest. Doria had many interests and hobbies. She loved communicating with people. Her phone line was frequently busy and her mailbox often full with cards and letters going to family and friends all over the country. She was an avid reader, but also enjoyed camping, casino trips, bowling, playing cards and going to lots of garage sales and flea markets. Her bird feeders were always well-stocked so she could enjoy watching the wildlife that came to visit. She was a great cook and always made sure there was too much food for everyone to enjoy; especially during the gun deer season at the farm. No one ever went away hungry. Doria is survived by her sons Brian (Sara) of Berlin and Steve (Shelly) of Omro; grandchildren Lauren and Jeremy Disterhaft of Berlin, Corey (Emma) Disterhaft of Berlin and Rachel Disterhaft of Oshkosh; step grandchildren Alyssa Potratz of Portland, OR and Kayla Potratz of Madison, WI; great-grandchildren Lennox and Chance Disterhaft; sister-in-law’s Mary Jane (Vilas) Kapp and Patricia (David) Disterhaft along with many other friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother David, husband Mike, mother and father in-law Edward and Isabelle Disterhaft, brother-in-law’s David Disterhaft, Florian Disterhaft, Vilas Kapp, Tony (Elaine) Briskie, sister-in-law’s Elaine Briskie, Marie (Florian) Tollard and way too many pets to name. The family would like to sincerely thank the Berlin Police Department and all the EMS personnel for their extremely quick response and efforts to help mom and to special friend Glenda Schmidt for always being there for her when needed. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, April 5th, 2025 from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin with the memorial funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Rob Schrader presiding. Internment will take place at a later date.
