Diane Disterhaft

Diane M. Disterhaft passed away at home on October 15, 2022, following a long battle with breast cancer. She was born in Berlin, WI on June 19th, 1950, to Victor C Page and Irene (Radloff) Page. She spent most of her youth in Omro, WI. Diane graduated from Omro High School in 1968. She went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where she graduated with honors in 1972. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in Library Science. After graduation she worked in Berlin, WI and Menominee, Ml in roles focused on early childhood education and library studies. Diane was united in marriage to Stanish Disterhaft on May 11th, 1974. Diane worked at the Berlin Public Library for 40+ years before retiring in 2015. During her time at the library she served as co-director and helped to open the new addition to the Berlin Public Library. Whether she was delivering smiles along with novels to homebound residents, leading a captivating story time for youngsters, orchestrating educational programs for adults, or assisting visitors explore their family tree through genealogy research, Diane was always dedicated to her community. One of her treasured achievements was sparking a lifelong love of reading for countless children, including her four surviving grandchildren Paige & Alex Briese and Elizabeth & Emma Cumings. In the evenings she looked forward to reading to and having her grandchildren read to her; and she was always looking to encourage and support their individual interests. Her soothing voice was great at putting even the most active grandchild to sleep. Diane enjoyed spending time in nature tending her flowers while watching hummingbirds and butterflies drink up sunshine and nectar. She looked forward to spending time with her family. Diane was always up for an adventure, traveling with her parents, visiting Mexico with her husband as a young newlywed, traveling to Times Square to ring in the New Year 2000, or even a flower filled trip to any green house. Diane was forever a supportive wife, mother and grandmother. As a lifelong reader she enjoyed remaining active in numerous book clubs across several states with the help of technology. She was always on the lookout for new opportunities to explore a new book or educational program. She is survived by her husband Stanish; daughters, Rachel (Martin Webster) Disterhaft, Andrea (Josh) Briese, and Katherine (Rich Cumings) Disterhaft-Cumings; and her brother, David Page. She was preceded in death and will join her parents Victor and Irene (Radloff) Page; her grandparents, Claude and Alice (Krebs) Page, Ervin and Emma (Beebe) Radloff; and her granddaughter, Eva Cumings in heaven. Diane was an incredible woman, librarian, wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed. She will remain in our hearts forever. Family and friends may visit with the family and pay their respects to Diane on Thursday, October 20, 2022, from 4 to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday October 21, 2022, from 12-2:00 p.m. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of Berlin. A Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, following the visitation at 2:00 p.m. with Father John Silva officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Berlin.
