Darlene Athey

Darlene Ann (Schnepp) Athey, formerly Prochnow, age 82 of Berlin, passed away peacefully on hospice on April 11, 2025, at ThedaCare-Neenah with her children at her side. She was born January 16, 1943, in Milwaukee, the first daughter of Frank W. and Muriel C. (Benn) Schnepp. Darlene was a graduate of Bay View High School in Milwaukee. She had been employed as an Institutional Aide at Southern Wisconsin Center in Union Grove for over 20 years before retirement. Darlene lived in many Wisconsin cities including Racine, Yorkville, Raymond, Union Grove, Omro and Redgranite. She enjoyed reading, doing Sudoku puzzles, playing solitaire on her phone and catching up on Facebook with her loving cat, Telula, by her side. She loved attending the many sporting events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She looked forward to her trips with her daughters and to her son's home. In her earlier years she enjoyed her many flowers and vegetable gardens, she also wrote poetry, sewed, crocheted, volunteered and collected Angel's. She is survived by her daughters, Denise (Kenneth) Hazen of Redgranite and Deanna (David) Glish of East Troy; son, Dean (Melissa Prichett) Prochnow of Kenosha; son-in-law, Tracy Lane of Necedah; sister, Judith Green of Waukesha; brothers, Terry (Vicki) Schnepp of Duluth, MN and Keith Schnepp; grandchildren, Ryan (Jenny Vandervest) Strasser, Eric (Melissa) Strasser, April (Steve) Johnson, Deborah-Lea Swenson, Dylan Glish, Devon Glish, Madison Prochnow, Wyatt Prochnow, Weston Prochnow, many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and many friends. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Curtis Schnepp; daughter, Dawn Lane; former husbands, Darrel Prochnow and David Athey; sisters-in-law, Linda Schnepp and Sharon Schnepp. Family and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of Berlin. A memorial service will be held following the visitation at 4:30 p.m. officiated by Rev. Rebecca Kindschi and Rev. Myron Tucker. A dinner will be served in the funeral home family center following the service. The family would like to thank ThedaCare and ThedaCare Hospice doctors and staff for their excellent care and compassion they showed Darlene.
