Mrs. Joan Sophie Soda

Joan Sophie Soda, 77, of Berlin, Town of Seneca died unexpectedly surrounded by her family on July 8, 2017 at ThedaCare Hospital in Berlin. She was born on July 25, 1939 in Berlin to Roman (Pete) and Mary Yagler. She graduated from Berlin High School in 1957. She married Raymond Soda on November 9, 1957 at St. Michael’s Church in Berlin. Joan worked at Midwestern Sport Togs for over 25 years. She also worked for Berlin Memorial Hospital for over 10 years. She enjoyed her jobs and was a very dedicated employee. She enjoyed so many things. Her passion was cooking, baking, canning, gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She had a special interest in birds. She loved to watch the birds and keep all of her many birdfeeders filled. Her favorite bird was the cardinal. She enjoyed reading cooking magazines, and completing crosswords and working on puzzles. She baked pies and cakes for the church picnics and enjoyed cooking and baking for others. She would always make extra to be sure to send some home with everyone for the next day. Joan was a member of All Saints Catholic Church of Berlin and a member of the CCW of the parish. Joan is survived by her husband, Ray; and her two sisters Pat Soda and Maryann (Ray) Kraft. She is further survived by her five children, Rick of Berlin, Doug (Simona) of Oceanside CA, Dan (Tina) of Berlin, Tim of Berlin and Ann Hoepfner (Tom) of Fond du Lac. She is also survived by her grandchildren Hunter (Kasi), Emma, Doug Jr (Kim), Desiree (Tyler), Brittany, Nicki, Sarah, Zachary, Alex and Andrew; Great Grandchildren Nova, Sammy, Leshad and Dramon, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 14 at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church of Berlin with Father David Greenfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Saint Michael Catholic Cemetery of Berlin. Relatives and friends may visit and pay their respect to Joan and her family on Thursday, July 13, from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of Berlin with a Parish Rosary to be recited at 6:45 p.m. and may also call at the Funeral Home on Friday, July 14, from 9-10 a.m. before we leave for the services at the church. A memorial has been established in Joan’s name. The family would like to thank Father David Greenfield and the doctors and nurses at ThedaCare –Berlin for their kind and compassionate care of Joan.
