Jim Zamzow

James Walter Zamzow, age 74 of Berlin, passed away peacefully surrounded with the love of his family and close friends on Friday, January 5, 2018 at his home. Jim was born on April 4, 1943 to Reinhold and Marion (Jones) Zamzow in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. In 1961, Jim was married to Barbara Konings and shared many wonderful memories together. They were divorced in 1990 and later that year, Jim was married to Caroline Anderson and she preceded him in death in 2007. Jim was employed by the Omar Bakery, Berlin Laundry, Gunderson Cleaners, and Ju Alterations of Oshkosh where he was taught everything he needed to know about opening his own business, Aladdin Cleaners of Berlin. Aladdin Cleaners was a dream for many years and became his own successful business in which he hopes will continue for many years to come. Jim was an active and very involved member of the Berlin community. He was a long time member and active supporter of Lion’s Club International. He spent thousands of hours volunteering his time for the organization and assisting the Eye Donor Donation and Leader Dog programs as well as holding many offices including District Governor. Jim was a leader and active member in the local Masonic community. As a Master Mason Jim spent countless hours supporting the fundraising activities and supporting the Berlin Masonic Lodge in its efforts to make Berlin a better place to be. Scholarships, brat fry’s, Music in the Park, July 4th Celebrations, Cheese Sales, were just some of the fundraising efforts Jim could be seen assisting and helping to organize. As if these all of these projects were not enough to keep Jim busy, he was proud to be a part of the Coats for Kids Winter Coat campaign, cleaning and distributing coats, scarves and mittens for those in need. Jim is survived and will be missed by his daughters, Bonnie Bergquist and Beth Zamzow, both of Oshkosh; son, Kevin Van Egren of Berlin, sister, Susan Girdy of Waupun; brothers, Bob (Audrey) Zamzow, Terry (Marnie) Zamzow, both of Waupun; grandchildren, Heather Mantalvo, Christopher Swenson; 4 great grandchildren, special friends, Sue Van Egren and Zelma Hall of Berlin; his Masonic and Lion’s family, his cats; along with many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reinhold and Marion Zamzow.
