Gerald "Jerry" Krause

Gerald Elmer Krause, age 73, went to his heavenly home after a short battle of Cancer on May 5, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 9, 1949, in Berlin, WI to the late Elmer and Hildegarde (Prein) Krause. Gerald graduated in 1967 from Berlin High School. Growing up Gerald worked on the family farm. After Graduation he was drafted and took basic training. He then proudly served in the Vietnam War from 1970-1971. He dedicated 34 years at Realist in Berlin, WI in the shipping and receiving department. Gerald married his partner in crime, Carol Krause on December 13, 1999. At that point, his family grew with children he never had. He became a Stepfather to three children, but step was never in our vocabulary. He quickly gained the names Pops, Grandpa Jerry, and Great Grandpa. He loved and enjoyed watching all the grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was a member of the VFW. Throughout his life, Gerald enjoyed spending time with his family and friends sharing good conversation and many laughs. He always had a joke. In the summer you could find him at a tractor show or car show. Gerald was pretty much down for anything that had good music and a cold drink. He enjoyed reading the gossip in all the local papers, watching the news, and feeding the birds. Gerald’s greatest love was for his wife of 25 years. The two of them truly enjoyed their retirement together going on vacations, taking day trips, watching plays, going to truck and tractor pulls, attending all the local fairs, going out shopping and finding a good place to eat. The two of them always found something to do. It will be pretty hard to fill his shoes in keeping grandma as busy as he did. Gerald is survived by his wife, Carol Krause; children, Curt Borgens and Vicky Borgens; grandchildren, Lisa (Eric) Adamski, Brad Borgens (Sara), Steven Borgens, Michael Borgens, Melissa (Jon) Schuster, Martin Bei (Sara Goodhue); great-grand Children, Noah, Tara Rose, Maverick, Layla, Leann, Serenity, and Keeva. One sister, Diane Beringer; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Borgens; several cousins and a lot of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Hildegarde Krause; baby sister, Carol; son, Brian Borgens; father and mother-in-law, Martin & Lorretta Hoft; brother-in-law, Tony Beringer; and sister-in-law, Beverly Therrian. The family wants to send a huge Thank you to ThedaCare Hospice for all the hard work, dedication, and patients. The family greatly appreciated everything you had done to make the end of life anything but the best. Not only were they there for Gerald, but for the whole family. Family and friends my visit with the family and pay their respects to Jerry on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 9-11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church of Berlin. A funeral service will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Paul Mundinger. Interment with full Military Honors presented by the Wells-Krause VFW Post #2925 will follow services at Nepeuskun Cemetery, all are then invited back to the church for a luncheon and a time for sharing.
