Donald Bert Eagen

On Saturday, May 6, 2023, Donald Bert Eagen loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at the age of 91. He passed away on the same land where he was born, the land he tended his whole life, and where he wished to take his last breath. Donald was born on February 18, 1932, in the township of Seneca, Green Lake County, Wisconsin, to Tom and Olga (Kerl) Eagen. He was the youngest of 8 children. He married Mary Ann Rausch on July 20, 1957 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. They were happily married for 65 years. Donald dedicated his life to farming and originally farmed with his father, Thomas and brother, Oliver at the homestead on Big Island Road, Berlin. Mike joined his father in the agricultural business after his uncle retired. Donald started farming in the era of actual horsepower and ended in the computer driven tractor age. Donald enjoyed fishing, hunting, attending auctions, telling stories, and Sunday afternoon drives in the surrounding area. Many a day was spent swapping stories with childhood friends from Big Island. He loved snowmobiling and John Deere farm implements. He dehorned cattle for many area farmers. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairburn. Donald is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann; children Mike (Sandy) Eagen, Sue (Joe) Schleis, Karen (Neal) Wolff, Amy (Jim) Briskie; grandchildren Briann Eagen, Kaitlyn Schleis, Emily Eagen, Ryan Schleis, Jack Wolff, and Sam Wolff; sister Alice Janes, and his nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank ThedaCare doctors Longo and Rassumsen and nurses Pat, Joan, and Cat who provided compassionate care for our father after his stroke. A special thank you to our family friend, Amy, who was a constant companion during our father’s last days and provided love and comfort to Don and our family. Family and friends my visit with the family on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 3-6:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Fairburn. A funeral service will follow visitation at 6:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Gregory Sluke. A luncheon and a time for sharing will follow services in the church hall. Inurnment will be held at a different time. A memorial has been established in his memory.
